Orlando, September 20, 2025 — The Latin American Corporation for Cybersecurity in Mining (CCMIN) and the Mining and Metals Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MM-ISAC) have signed a landmark collaboration agreement aimed at strengthening cybersecurity across the global mining sector.
The agreement, signed by CCMIN Board Chairman Ezequiel Fagetti and MM-ISAC Chief Information Security Officer Rob Labbe, establishes a framework for sharing critical information and intelligence, promoting awareness, and fostering a unified cybersecurity culture within the industry.
Together, these organizations represent a significant portion of mining companies worldwide. This initiative will enable broader cooperation, enhancing resilience against cyber threats that increasingly target operational technology (OT), digital systems, and critical infrastructure—the backbone of economic growth and national security.
As connectivity expands, so do vulnerabilities. Cybercriminals and state-sponsored actors exploit jurisdictional gaps, making isolated efforts insufficient. Lack of coordination creates security blind spots, allowing threats to spread rapidly across borders. Industry-wide collaboration is essential to close these gaps, share intelligence, standardize security protocols, and deliver a unified response to emerging incidents.
Through joint initiatives, the mining industry can build stronger defences against ransomware and other malicious activities. Information sharing on OT and ICS cybersecurity—similar to IT practices—allows partners to learn about adversarial techniques before attacks occur. By exchanging indicators of compromise, attack patterns, and vulnerability insights, and coordinating defensive actions, all participants become more secure.
This partnership marks a critical step toward safeguarding the mining industry’s digital future.
CCMIN
In 2023, a coalition of leading mining companies—including Antofagasta Minerals, Anglo American, BHP, Codelco, Collahuasi, and Freeport-McMoRan —joined forces with cybersecurity experts and representatives from various sectors to establish CCMIN (Cybersecurity Mining Corporation).
Founded as a nonprofit organization, CCMIN’s mission is clear:
· Protect the mining sector from cyber threats
· Foster collaboration among stakeholders
· Promote a secure and resilient digital environment
Since its inception, CCMIN has achieved steady growth, expanding its collaborative networks and strengthening its influence both locally and internationally. Today, it stands as a key driver of cybersecurity innovation and cooperation within the mining industry.
MM – ISAC
The Mining and Metals ISAC (MM-ISAC) is a non-profit, industry-owned corporation established to improve the cyber security of metals and mining companies. Its goal is to protect members against incidents that could impact safety, environmental sustainability, or operational productivity. This mission will be achieved by sharing threat and vulnerability
